It is a root of the plant _Zingiber officinale_ and it is used not only as a spice, but also for making tea. It gives the dishes a spicy taste and a characteristic strong aroma, due to the abundance of essential oils in it. 

It goes well in cakes, with pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots, beet root, apples, pears, grilled meat, in foods with sweet and sour taste, soup and more. It can be combined with other spices such as basil, garlic, mint, turmeric, lemongrass, etc.
