1936–1966

Alkaloid’s First Steps

The period from 1946 to 1956 marked Alkaloid’s first steps towards increasing production, modernizing technology, expanding its manufacturing activities, and improving the qualification structure of its employees. The year 1957 was particularly significant for Alkaloid’s development, when a new facility for the production of medicinal products, the Galenic Production Facility, was commissioned. Another important chapter in Alkaloid’s development was the beginning of business and technical cooperation with renowned global pharmaceutical and chemical corporations.

The quality of Macedonian poppy was instrumental in the establishment of Alkaloid

On August 29, 1950, the so-called workers’ self-management system was introduced at the factory

The Galenic Production Facility was commissioned, and Caffetin production began

1966–1994

Building a Modern Pharmaceutical Infrastructure

In 1966, the Research and Development Institute was commissioned as a dedicated segment of Alkaloid, established to support the company’s overall development and technology program. The vision of creating a modern pharmaceutical company began to take shape in 1972 with the opening of a new finished medicinal products factory. In 1979, the Medicinal Plant Processing Factory was commissioned.

Launch of the Medicinal Plant Processing Factory

1994–2006

Strategic Development and International Recognition

Signing of the Convertible Loan Agreement between J. Wolfensohn of the World Bank (EBRD/IFC) and T. Mukaetov of Alkaloid in 1999. The new facility for solid pharmaceutical dosage forms, built in accordance with strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, was commissioned in 2000. In November 2002, the company was listed on the official market of the Macedonian Stock Exchange.

Alkaloid was registered as a privately owned joint-stock company

Signing of the Convertible Loan Agreement with the EBRD and IFC
