Green Chromatography 3: A Step Forward Toward Sustainability in Pharmaceutical Analysis
The project Green Chromatography: Part 3 – Rational Transformation of RP-HPLC Methods – A Step Forward Toward Sustainability in Pharmaceutical Analysis concluded with a presentation of its outcomes and the insights gained, building on the projects initiated during the previous year.
Driven by the principle “A Good Future Starts with Good Research”, in May 2022, Alkaloid AD Skopje, in partnership with the Career Center at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University and the Faculty of Pharmacy at UKIM, launched a research initiative aimed at the “greening” of conventional liquid chromatography (HPLC) methods. The concept of green analytical chemistry encompasses the design of experiments and processes that reduce or eliminate harmful products, reagents, solvents, and other substances, while also lowering energy consumption through environmentally responsible solutions and innovative analytical approaches.
The project was implemented across three phases, engaging 23 students mentored by three professors and one assistant professor from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM), alongside four experts from Alkaloid’s Global Development – Pharmaceutical Research and Development division. The practical component was carried out in the training laboratory within the company’s Education and Training Center.
This initiative represents a continuation of the long-established and successful collaboration between Alkaloid and Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in various areas, with a focus on strengthening students’ knowledge and hands-on competencies.
Through the adoption of such advanced solutions in the development of analytical methods and their application in product quality control, Alkaloid aligns with modern global trends and actively supports a more sustainable future.
