ACTION

ALKAVIT® folic acid is essential for synthesis of nucleoproteins and for hematopoesa. Following resorption, folic acid is rapidly reduced to positions 5, 6, 7 and 8 in its active metabolite – tetrahydrophle acid (folinic acid) Tetrahydrophole acid is a coenzyme for various metabolic processes, such as: synthesis of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides, i.e. synthesis of DNA, coversion of certain amino acids (conversion of homocystein into metionyn, conversion of serin into glycine) and synthesis of tymidiale.

INDICATIONS

Folic acid is indicated for prevention of occurrence of defects in the neural tube, including spina bifida in the fetus.
