Japanese Ambassador Pays a Working Visit to Alkaloid AD Skopje
Alkaloid’s business ties with Japanese companies date back to 1978, when a partnership was established with Fujifilm Corporation. As part of this collaboration, the company commissioned a manufacturing facility for X-ray films under a Fuji licence, positioning Alkaloid as one of only two authorised producers of this type of film in Europe.
A delegation from the Embassy of Japan in Skopje, led by H.E. Ambassador Setsuko Kawahara, paid a working visit to Alkaloid AD Skopje, where they were provided with a comprehensive overview of the company’s operations, financial performance, and key strategic priorities, including its strong export orientation, ongoing investments, and commitment to sustainable growth.
The nearly five-decade-long tradition of cooperation with Japanese companies, which began with Fuji, continues to evolve today, particularly in the haemodialysis segment, where Alkaloid maintains successful partnerships with leading Japanese companies Nipro and Nikkiso, developing joint business initiatives across multiple markets. The Japanese business connection is further reinforced through Alkaloid KONS, which has been successfully marketing products from the portfolio of the Japanese pharmaceutical giant Takeda for more than a decade.
Through the programmes of the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS), members of Alkaloid’s management team have enhanced their expertise through specialised training programmes held at the organisation’s training centres in Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo.
Following the official part of the visit, the delegation, accompanied by Alkaloid’s Chief Executive Officer and MB President, Zhivko Mukaetov, toured the Museum of Alkaloid, the production facilities of the Pharmaceuticals Profit Centre, and the Research and Development Institute, where they were able to witness first-hand the company’s advanced technologies, the rigorous standards applied across its operations, and the expertise demonstrated by its professional teams. At the Research and Development Institute, the delegation also had the opportunity to observe modern laboratory systems and analytical equipment produced by renowned Japanese manufacturers and integrated into Alkaloid’s advanced research infrastructure.
Against the backdrop of Alkaloid’s long-standing ties with Japanese companies and its strategic commitment to international growth, the visit of H.E. Ambassador Setsuko Kawahara serves as an additional impetus for strengthening cooperation and fostering new partnerships with the Japanese business community.
The Embassy of Japan in Skopje remains a strong supporter of the Macedonian healthcare system, having contributed through numerous donations and grant initiatives benefiting healthcare institutions across the country.
