Energy Efficiency Projects
In the period from 2013 to 2016, Alkaloid AD used the financing opportunity for energy efficient projects and projects in the field of renewable energy sources of the WeBSEFF (Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Financing Facility) credit line, provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Commission, that aims at providing loans to companies from the Western Balkans (Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia).
For the projects to be accepted for financial support, the condition was to achieve energy savings of at least 20%, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 20%, as well as to comply with national environmental requirements, health and safety standards and accordingly, to provide all necessary permits. The main benefits of the projects are energy saving, return on investment through energy saving, upgrading of technology lines and equipment, as well as building the image of a socially responsible company that cares about the protection of the environment.
During that period, Alkaloid AD implemented several projects in Skopje, as well as one in Belgrade. Solar collectors were installed for heating hot sanitary water, modernization of the heating system in the educational center in Dojran, installation of a low-temperature hot-water gas boiler for heating the Quality control Pharmacy building, raw materials and packaging warehouse and annex facilities. We continuously invest in energy efficient roof and facade systems, as well as windows with low heat transfer coefficient.
In addition to the procurement of new energy efficient equipment, we pay attention to automation and optimization of all systems that use any type of energy. In October 2015 in Zagreb, Alkaloid AD was awarded first prize for a successful implementation of energy efficient project.
The total amount of the WeBSEFF credit line used by Alkaloid AD was around 1.500.000 EUR.
1. Project- Solar collectors installation (value: 60.000,00 EUR)
A total of 60 solar collectors with a 150mW collector area have been installed on the following facilities:
Institute for research and development Pharmacy, Avtokomanda facility,
Production of cephalosporins (PPSC), Gjorche Petrov facility,
Alkaloid AD educational center in Dojran and
Facility Restorant, facility Avtokomanda.
The goal of the project is installing solar thermal collectors for obtaining hot sanitary water.
2. Project – Reconstruction with repurposing of part of the facility for Production of cosmetics in Warehouses for finished products - Cosmetics, Gjorche Petrov facility. (value 45.000,00 EUR)
The aim of the project is installation of Ecopanels type WLC for facades, with a thickness of 100 mm, with a coefficient of thermal permeability which is 0,21K (W/m2K) on an area of 1831,46 m².
3. Project – Installation of a heat pump with accompanying installation for heating and cooling in a facility for Production of cosmetics (value: 300.000,00 EUR)
The installation of the heat pump with heating factor which is the ratio of the heat provided by the heat pump for heating/cooling and the consumed electricity for this heat pump is COP=4,68. The capacitor device that is connected to the motor in parallel, provides a constant COSφ=0,95 and a reduction of the input power supply up to 10%, which is an additional electricity saving.
4. Project – Replacement of existing light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs (value: 95.000 EUR)
By replacing the existing light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs electricity savings were achieved in the following facilities:
Facility - Cosmetics Factory, part Warehouse for raw materials and packaging Cosmetics, Gjorche Petrov facility,
Facility - Cosmetics Factory, Warehouse for final product Cosmetics and Pharmacy, Gjorche Petrov facility,
Facility – Warehouse for final products, Avtokomanda facility and
Ground floor lighting, Avtokomanda facility.
The buildings are equipped with 4 x 50W bulbs or 2 x 80W bulbs, and both types of bulbs are highly efficient Class A, with fluorescent T5 bulbs and IP 65 protection.
5. Project - External reconstruction of building A1- Production Pharmacy, production of semi-solid, liquid and ampoule medical forms, Avtokomanda facility (value 200,000 EUR)
The aim of this project was renewal, repair and reconstruction of the roof and facade surfaces. The reconstruction of the building significantly improved the protection from atmosphere and heat influences and achieved energy savings.
The investment project included the following works:
• Reconstruction of the roof with a sloping ventilated roof,
• Reconstruction of the facade by installing a new thermal facade with d=10cm insulation,
• Replacement of windows with new four season low emission thermopane glass, type 4x12x4 mm aluminum windows.
6. Project – Reconstruction with repurposing of existing building in “Quality Control Pharmacy#, Avtokomanda facility (value 500,000 EUR)
The reconstruction of the building significantly improved the protection from atmosphere and heat influences and achieved energy savings.
The following works were performed for the reconstruction and repurposing of the existing building:
Replacement of windows with new four season low emission thermopane glass, type 4x12x4 mm aluminum windows,
Reconstruction of the facade by installing a new thermal facade with d=10cm insulation,
Reconstruction of the roof with aluminum panel roof,
Replacement of a freight elevator with a new elevator with a load capacity of 800kg,
Replacement of thermotechnical equipment and installations
- Replacement of fuel oil boiler and steam installation with gas hot-water boiler and installation, for obtaining hot water ,
- Replacement of existing air conditioning system (air chambers and heating units) with central cooling machine and electrical installation,
Installation of 20 solar collectors,
Replacement of existing light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs and accompanying equipment in the Quality control building and the Warehouse for raw materials and packaging.
7. Project – Windows replacement in the existing building “Management building”, Avtokomanda facility (value 160.000 EUR)
By replacing all the windows and modification of the walls around the window openings of the building, the protection from atmosphere and heat influences was significantly improved and energy savings were achieved. The following was performed for the reconstruction of the existing building:
Replacement of windows with new four season low emission thermopane glass, type 4x12x4 mm aluminum windows,
Modification of walls around window openings, closing of blinds openings, installation of insulation on exterior walls, replacement of aluminum ceiling.
8. Project - Reconstruction of the thermo-technical installation in the Drug Factory, object C, primary packaging, in Alkaloid doo Belgrade (value 136.000 EUR)
Within this project, the existing air conditioning system K1 was replaced, in order to control and regulate the humidity in the premises for primary packaging of drugs.
